As technology leaders in the Indian Commercial Vehicle Industry, we have extended our expertise to the Indian Armed Forces, powering them from strength to strength in various combat and non-combat capacities.
We have pioneered the design, development and manufacture of special vehicles for the armed forces starting with 1200 Hippos in the 1970s. Since then, our vehicles have served the armed forces in ground support role as dozer carriers, torpedo carriers and for mounting sophisticated communication equipment. Our powerful diesel engines have been used to power vehicles, naval boats, cranes, ground starter aggregates, compressors and generators. In Air Force stations and Naval airfields, Ashok Leyland plays a significant role in safety as Crash Fire Tenders and Rapid Intervention Vehicles. The Company has a transfer of technology agreement with Ordinance Factories Board for co-production of Stallion vehicles.
Today Ashok Leyland is counted among the world's largest producers of medium duty defense vehicles.

Our constant desire to excel and innovate has lent great advantage to the Armed Forces. We have been their partners in the modernization drives. Following the successful induction of the Stallion 4x4, the 45,000-strong fleet has grown to become the backbone of logistics operations.
Over 1250 Light Recovery Vehicles (4 X 4), 600 Truck Fire Fighting vehicles (4 X 2), 261 Gun Towing Tractors (3/5T, 4X4) and 872 5KL Stallion Water Bowsers (4X4) have also joined the services.
We continue to contribute highly specialized and dependable vehicles to the Armed Forces. On the anvil is a family of modern, reliable vehicles, with high commonality of parts.
